St. Philip’s To Receive a Whitelaw Founders Award

Our Shine the Light Campaign co-chairs, Maybank Hagood, Martha Freshley, and Karen Phillips, recently received a letter from Winslow Hastie, President and CEO of the Historic Charleston Foundation, who wrote:

I am pleased to ... inform you that the Foundation wishes to honor you and your congregation with a Whitelaw Founders Award for your extensive preservation initiative to ensure the long-term structural integrity of St. Philip’s Church. This award will be given as part of HCF’s annual Charter Day celebration.

For 79 years, Historic Charleston Foundation has established a legacy of preserving the historic landscape of Charleston and the Lowcountry. As a Charter Day honoree, your work is an important part of this legacy and our commitment to honor Charleston’s history.

The Whitelaw Founders Award recognizes individuals, groups, or government entities that are committed to the long-term protection and preservation of important buildings and places, as well as those involved with preservation advocacy and policy. The steadfast dedication to preservation from your congregation is inspiring, and we applaud your excellent stewardship of this important Charleston landmark.

The award will be presented in person during a small ceremony next month.

Construction notice:
The graveyard and sanctuary are closed to weekday visitors due to construction and renovations taking place as part of our Shine the Light capital campaign.
