“All About Advent” Ornament-Making Extravaganza

On Wednesday, November 12, all our clergy were making their way home from the diocesan clergy conference in Flat Rock, NC, and we were without our regular Wednesdays Alive! service. So we invited everyone to join us for our first “All About Advent” event––because even though it’s not quite Advent, we have some preparation to do for our season of waiting. Every year, our Home Missions team makes 400–500 ornaments to adorn our Angel Trees and serve as gifts and reminders for our parishioners to purchase gift cards for our neighbors in need, but his year, we put out a call to the whole parish, and our wonderful church family responded!

We began the evening with a yummy pasta dinner, and then the crafting fun began! Brooke Finland and Katie Freer were the craft divas who created four beautiful ornaments and gathered all the supplies that would be needed for our team of approximately 80 people to create. And boy, did they create––all the ornaments were finished in about an hour and half! It was wonderful. All different levels of crafting abilities were put to use, and there was plenty of time for fellowship as well. We had participants in all different ages and stages of life, which made it all the more enjoyable. So many volunteers jumped in to help make this event a success, and we are so grateful to them!

Children were also able to take home Advent chains thanks to the Generations Committee, and there was a table of recommended family Advent resources for people to peruse and consider––and several families picked up the Advent wreath kits they’d ordered.  Now you know about the love and joy that went into making the precious ornaments that will serve as your reminder to participate in our Angel Tree event! Let’s make this our most generous year ever of blessing our mission partners!
