Extraordinary Faith and Generosity at the 20th Annual Walk for Water

St. Philip’s Church has once again demonstrated the transformative power of God’s people while coming together to serve those in need. Our church family participated with tremendous enthusiasm at the 20th annual Walk for Water, raising an astonishing $10,480––more than double our original fundraising goal––with 110 dedicated walkers! Thank you so much for your prayers, generosity, and participation! We truly walked so that others won’t have to.

The global water crisis is a heartbreaking reality. Millions of women and children must walk miles each day to collect unsafe water, exposing them to illness and danger while robbing them of time for education, work, worship, and family. At the Walk for Water on March 21, nearly 5,000 people came together at Riverfront Park to raise awareness of this crisis and to raise vital funds for Water Mission. We symbolically walked in their footsteps, carrying buckets of dirty water to experience the physical burden of this task.

This event was more than just a fundraiser on a beautiful, sunny day––it was a celebration of our church’s unity and fellowship. At the St. Philip’s sponsor tent, we greeted hundreds of walkers with freshly baked cookies, inviting them to join us for worship and distributing flyers that share about our home and world mission opportunities. After the walk, many of us shared lunch and conversation at Holy City Brewery. Several students from our newest home mission, Campus Communion, joined us to share their journeys of faith while studying at the College of Charleston.

Water Mission is dedicated to providing safe water, sanitation and hygiene solutions to people in developing countries, refugee camps and disaster areas around the world. Since 2001, Water Mission has integrated the living water of Christ with first-in-class engineering solutions to bring both physical relief and spiritual hope. Funds from this year’s walk will bring clean, safe water to more than 14,000 people in need around the world.
