St. Philippians Offer Donations and Service To Our Home Missions in January and February

Many thanks to each and every one of the 29 folks who braved the cold and joined our Hope to Home (H2H) Saturday Serve this past Saturday morning! A large group went on deliveries and reported stories of great joy and gratitude exhibited by the recipients of the furniture and home goods donations. Matthew Huff commented, “One lady couldn’t stop crying and went around hugging every single one of our team.” Another recipient was a disabled man and his wife who had previously been living in a tent under the bridge. What a privilege to be able to personally bring Christ’s love to people in need of goods and hope.

It was exciting to see how this Saturday Serve provided opportunities for fellowship amongst our team members. We had a large group of young people, four married couples, a mother/daughter team, and several members of a Bible study group, and our team welcomed and enjoyed getting to know several new folks to St. Philip’s (and then some of us saw each other at the oyster roast!).

A special thanks to those returning H2H volunteers who helped lead our various group activities: deliveries, assembling linen kits, making kitchen kits, and repairing and refinishing furniture.

Our next H2H Saturday Serve will be in October, but there are plenty of other opportunities to volunteer individually or with a group (such as with family, friends, or a Bible study) throughout the year. Visit hopetohomesc.org for information!

In January, Star Gospel Mission sent a huge thank you for the five SUV carloads of canned goods and over 30 men’s coats donated by St. Philip’s! So many generous hearts brought donations to the church office the week before Mere Anglicanism, as well as during the pouring down rain that Sunday. A special thanks to the volunteers who helped with collection before and after church!

I wish every St. Philip’s donor could have seen the faces of the Star Gospel employees and residents as they unloaded the donations into the pantry and coat closet.

Our next opportunity to help Star Gospel Mission as a parish is at our Saturday Serve on April 18, when we’ll beautify their outdoor space with some garden maintenance. If you have a small group who would like to cook a Monday night meal or a Sunday morning breakfast for Star Gospel residents, contact Sandra Anderson at (843) 345-4188 or sanderson727@gmail.com for available dates and details.

Construction notice:
The graveyard and sanctuary are closed to weekday visitors due to construction and renovations taking place as part of our Shine the Light capital campaign.
