Have You Noticed the Waterways Look a Little Cleaner?

Our middle- and high-schoolers showed they meant business on September 20 at Waterfront Park, where they pulled hundreds of pounds of trash out of the pluff mud and grass during South Carolina’s 36th Annual Beach Sweep/River Sweep!
“It’s amazing,” said Youth Minister David Gilbert of the amount they were able to clear away. “Every year we get about that much. It’s unbelievable how much plastic and styrofoam and garbage is in our waterways.” The kids all have a great time, even when they don’t find any spooky baby dolls or barnacled bicycles, as they have in years past. (We can neither confirm nor deny that they DID find the real-life Batman’s mask––er, helmet…or something.)
Thank you to all who participated––if you missed this opportunity, keep an eye on your newsletter, because David Gilbert and his team of youth leaders always have a number of service projects planned throughout the year!
